First Aircraft engineering college in south India

The Southern College of Engineering & Technology is one of the pioneers in Aviation Training since 1955. The college is situated at Chalakudy in Thrissur District of Kerala. The campus is ideally located in a 15 acre estate by the banks of the Chalakudy River, about a kilometer from Chalakudy Railway station and KSRTC Bus stand. Hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls students.

The Objective of an AME institute is to provide students with necessary knowledge, experience and skill on Aircraft Maintenance Techniques in order to pass the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) license examination conducted by Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Now the Institute is approved by DGCA under CAR 147 (Basic) to conduct Basic Aircraft Maintenance Training Course in Category B1.1 (Aeroplane Turbine).

Southern college of Engineering & Technology, Chalakudy (MTO) has made a viable written agreement with AI Engineering Services Limited, Thiruvananthapuram for imparting 30% of the total Practical Training (08 Weeks). The Training programme consists of Theoretical and Practical training in various Aircraft Maintenance Engineering subjects which includes Air Regulation, Electrical & Avionics Fundaments, General Engineering & Maintenance Practices, Aerodynamics, Turbine Aeroplane Aerodynamic, Structures and System, Gas Turbine Engine, Propeller etc. Total curriculum is divided in to class room instructions and associated practical training.

This Training Organization has necessary basic training workshops and maintenance facilities separate from training classrooms provided for practical instruction appropriate to the planned training course. 70% of the total Practical Training as applicable to Category B1.1 Basic Training Course is carried out at this Institute. The Institute has a Hangar with adequate area to park one Light aircraft and one Heavy Aircraft (Cessna 152 and Learjet 24D) for demonstration and performing practical exercises. The Learjet 24D aircraft (installed with GE CJ 610-6 Turbojet engines) is with Retractable Landing Gear and most of the Primary Instruments & Systems functioning.

The Faculty consists of highly qualified and experienced professionals headed by the Chief Instructor/Training Manager who is approved by the DGCA. The instructors include post graduates in engineering, graduates in engineering B1.1 licence holders and B2 licence holders.
